Which Apple Watch models will get watchOS 9?

With Apple’s annual developer conference, WWDC, going live in a few hours, we expect multiple new software versions to be announced. This means macOS 13, iOS 16, iPadOS 16, watchOS 9, and finally tvOS 16. But which Apple Watch models can we expect to be compatible with the upcoming watchOS 9?

Apple has come to be known for their excellent product lifespan. Indeed, with better product lifecycles and over half a decade of regular updates.

We expect watchOS 9 to be rolled out exclusively to Apple Watch Series 4 and newer. That means, unfortunately, that the beloved Series 3 will be among those losing compatibility with the latest watchOS edition. This could be due to its ageing processor, and smaller display. Additionally, we believe that while all models newer than the Series 4 will be eligible, that the Series 7 models could gain exclusive watch faces or features that could make for a better experience.
