What happened to AirPower?

Perhaps you remember, but there was a day last year when Apple announced AirPower, a charging mat which was supposed to radically simplify charging of up to three devices. That date was September 12, 2017 – 329 days ago and counting.

At its presentation, AirPower was shown to charge an iPhone X, AirPods, and an Apple Watch simultaneously. Great right? Except the product so many of us want never arrived. This was perhaps one of the few mishaps Apple had in recent times, where product announcement and actual release date had a huge time discrepancy. Obviously AirPower is wildly anticipated, so what happened to it?

Some reports suggest that Apple may have encountered engineering and production difficulties, resulting in this delay. A central issue seems to be overheating. As we know, this is an issue which no manufacturer should take lightly, in order to avoid a massive product failure and callback (remember the Samsung Galaxy Note 7?).

Apple knows this very well, and that’s perhaps what they want to nail: making sure that AirPower is flawless, doesn’t develop excessive heat, and won’t explode.

So while we have no option but to wait, here are some Qi certified chargers which will work with your iPhone.
