We have reported many times that the Apple Watch is a key health device at this point. It saved many lives, helped with early diagnostics of medical conditions, and continues motivating people to become more active.
Now a user tweeted that his brother’s life was saved thanks to the Apple Watch’s heart rate sensor. Read the tweets below:
My brother was saved by his Apple Watch. After he felt a rapid heart beat >200 bpm, his watch told him to “go to the hospital.” He did and his tachycardia was diagnosed.

2/ He says … "and BTW, during the 15 hours I was at the hospital hooked up to the monitors, my the monitors never disagreed with my watch’s reading. I checked MANY times."

The interesting parts here are that not only did it save another life, but that the heart rate reading were identical to a professional heart rate monitor in the clinic. This is impressive (but not surprising).
Even Tim Cook noticed it, and tweeted about it:
Ira, we’re glad to hear that your brother was able to get medical attention in time. Hope he is doing well. https://t.co/fbwrbjPavS

Has your Apple Watch ever notified you about an elevated heart rate? Have you tried out the ECG feature yet? Let us know in the comments.
